The AMTA Florida Chapter Annual meeting offers an exciting opportunity for it’s members to take advantage of  free education, network with colleagues over lunch, and hear news from the Florida Chapter Board of Directors.  Whether you’ve been attending these for decades or it’s your first time, join us!!  We are excited to provide a great atmosphere for all to learn and connect.

  • 8am – 9am: Check-in/Registration, networking, coffee and tea
  • 9am – 12pm: CE classes (read below for detailed information.  Choose classes when registering.)
  • 12pm – 2pm: Complimentary Lunch buffet catered by the Rosen Plaza, meeting, voting results and candidate installation
  • 2pm – 5pm: CE classes continue (read below for detailed information.  Choose classes when registering.)

Guest room discounted rate $109.00 (subject to availability): Call the Rosen Plaza Reservation Department at 407-996-9700 or call toll-free at 800-627-8258. Request the group rate for the American Massage Therapy Association. Individuals are responsible for payment of room, tax and Incidental charges. Departure dates will be reconfirmed upon check-in. Any adjustments to departure dates should be made at that time. Shortened lengths of stay, thereafter, will result in a $50.00 administrative fee, plus applicable taxes and surcharge.

Class Descriptions

Registrants may choose a total of 6 hours consisting of EITHER the Full Day RNR™ or two courses by Dr. Cullers and Mike McGillicuddy.  Classes will be chosen when registering for the event.  No changes after registration is complete

Morning

9am-12noon – Massage for the Oncology Patient – Dr. Jeff Cullers

Using the “who, what, when, why, how” teaching model, Dr. Cullers will share the many facets pertaining to this topic; who uses oncology massage, what oncology massage is, what is cancer, the various effects of cancer treatments, when massage therapy should and should not be performed, as well as the concept and application of Oncology/Lymphatic Manual Drainage and common medications related to cancer treatments. Lecture only.

9am-12noon – RNR™ 6-Hour Course: 1-Min Stupendous Psoas Release, Perfect Piriformis Release & 3-Min Flexible Full Body Routine Part 1- Laurel Freeman

Come learn 3 different RNR™ routines: (1) Give a fantastic full body massage in just 3-minutes; (2) Release the persistent piriformis quickly and effectively; (3) Learn a 1-minute stupendous psoas release and create long lasting changes for your clients.  RNR™ is an effective & efficient technique that therapists can use immediately with clients. RNR™ gets rapid results within a few minutes that is potentially long lasting. RNR™ gives longevity to the therapist because it is easy to do. RNR™ counts. Supplies needed: Massage table, 2 flat sheets, 1 fitted sheet, 1 small bath towel; Instead of bolsters, please bring 1 pillow and wear comfortable clothes; bring socks if feet get cold.

9am-12noon – Proper Foot Care for the Massage Therapist – Mike McGillicuddy

The majority of massage therapists spend much of their day on their feet while working on clients. When you spend hours a day on your feet, taking proper care of them is critical. This class will provide suggestions on how to properly care for your feet and reduce your risk of foot pain, both now and into the future.  No massage table needed.

2pm-5pm – Recovery Massage for the Golfer – Mike McGillicuddy

Millions of Americans play golf, with 25 million of us hitting the golf course at least once a year, according to a report from the National Golf Foundation.  With golf holding steady as a popular recreational pastime, it would benefit massage therapists and their golfing clients to understand how recovery massage for golfers can help.  By understanding the unique concerns of your golfing clients and providing them targeted treatment, you can help decrease their chances of injury, accelerate their recovery and enhance their performance on the golf course.  No massage table needed.

This seminar will present the science, practical application, and incredible benefits of Post Isometric Relaxation Stretching Techniques (PIR), also known in the US as a Manual Muscle Energy Technique.  Dr. Cullers will discuss and demonstrate how Post Isometric Relaxation Stretching Techniques (PIR), a Manual Muscle Energy Technique tool is used to improve function through the release of hypertonic musculature and has been found to be more effective than simple stretching.  No massage table needed.
